KAREN M. THOMSON, Ph.D., RYT 200 — METAPHYSICAL INTUITIVE
Reader, Teacher, Healer, Minister, Pianist
THE CENTER FOR HEALING AND SPIRITUAL AWARENESS, Founder and Director
THE BUCKHEAD YOGA ROOM, Teacher and Founder

Believing the earth and all of humanity are in a major transition into a world of greater Light, Love, Peace, and Joy, Karen feels deeply honored to help her clients with the challenges and changes taking place at this time. She is grateful for the experiences and challenges of her life, as she feels such challenges have deepened her understanding and have caused her to have great empathy and compassion for what other people are experiencing. Her focused mission today is one of service in the healing arts as she believes humanity is in a process of releasing past emotional baggage and whatever no longer serves us well, opening to the miraculous healing energies available, transcending old patterns and limiting beliefs, ultimately forgiving self and others, and learning to live creative, positive, fulfilling lives of infinite possibilities. As we continue to expand our conscious awareness and learn to blend the technological with the spiritual, science with the humanities, the East with the West, the heart with the mind, the Earth and all of creation are the benefactors. Participating in such service is what Karen’s work is all about.

ACADEMIC WORK AND CAREER
Karen views her work from 1970-1995 as a natural blending of an academic career with her metaphysical work. A Ph.D. in English, a full Professor of English who taught a variety of literature and composition courses in the college classroom, she worked, also, as a college administrator for half of her time of full-time employment in the University of Georgia system–from 1973-74 at Dalton State College while finishing her dissertation and from 1976-1995 at Kennesaw State University, where she served as Chair of the English Department for 1 year and Assistant to the Dean in the School of Arts and Behavioral Sciences for 9 years. Her degrees, all in English, are from Wesleyan College (AB, 1967), University of Georgia (MA, 1969), and Georgia State University (Ph.D., 1975). After a successful career in the academic world, she left the university system in 1995 in order to pursue her passion for metaphysical work, piano performance, and the creative arts.

METAPHYSICAL CAREER

YOGA–Her metaphysical path began, also, in the early ’70s with her first yoga class. She started her teaching of Yoga and Meditation in 1974, and, in 1998, she began offering yoga teacher certification classes. Some with their own studios, several of Karen’s graduates are successful yoga teachers today. She earned certification at the Asheville Yoga Center as a Yoga Instructor, an Advanced Yoga Instructor, and an RYT 200. After decades of teaching hundreds of students, often through college continuing education programs, she now teaches in her own studio “The Buckhead Yoga Room” and enjoys invitations as a yoga teacher / speaker for various groups and events. Karen continues her yoga practice, besides teaching, as a yoga student since 2005 at Atlanta’s Red Hot Yoga. In 2014, she celebrates 40 years of teaching yoga.

PSYCHIC READINGS–Her spiritual path expanded in 1976 with her first psychic reading and she learned to read the Tarot this same year. In the 1980’s, she began teaching others to read the symbols and continues to offer classes and certification in learning how to read the Tarot. Many of her Tarot graduates today are successful readers available for both private readings and at psychic fairs.

HEALING SESSIONS–Karen often uses music, a variety of sounds, guided visualizations, and the imagination in her healing sessions, as well as her classes. Sessions are tailored to the individual and are always preceded by prayers, and frequently incorporate crystals and stones as she facilitates the cleansing of the energy field surrounding the physical body, balances the chakras, and assists the client in seeing the divine purpose of his/her chosen path. Following the session, the client often feels lighter, freer, and better.
