Yoga

“I have watched yoga ‘come of age’ in this country during the 40 years I’ve been practicing and teaching yoga and am thrilled that yoga now reaches millions in mainstream America.”

Karen has been a Yoga Teacher since 1974. Her metaphysical path began in 1972 with her first yoga class which was offered at her church, Peachtree Road United Methodist in Atlanta. She completed her teacher training at the Asheville Yoga Center (2002), holds certification as an Advanced Yoga Teacher (2003), and is registered as a yoga teacher through the national association of yoga teachers, Yoga Alliance (RYT 200). She has done special training and has certification in Yoga of the Heart at the Sivananda Yoga Ashram Retreat Center in the Bahamas (2005).

Karen’s approach in teaching yoga is eclectic. She has taught yoga to hundreds of students in numerous college continuing education classes, on-site yoga programs for corporate employees, retreats, workshops, homes of yoga students, and her own studio, The Buckhead Yoga Room. She has been the invited yoga teacher since 1998 for the early morning yoga classes at Kumandi’s week-long African Drumming and Dance Camps held each May at the Wildacres Retreat Center in North Carolina.

Karen has written articles on yoga and is a speaker on “The Benefits of Yoga and Meditation” to various groups, most recently in 2013 to Fulton Master Gardeners and, also, to staff and attorneys at Balch & Bingham Law Firm.

Believing that good teachers are also good students, she has been a student since 2005 at Atlanta’s Red Hot Yoga now located in Miami Circle in Buckhead. Today she continues her yoga practice as a seasoned teacher and student and credits yoga as being a key factor in maintaining her good health and flexibility.

In 2014 Karen celebrates 40 years of teaching yoga.
